How we compare betting sites

No secret formula and no league-table theatre. Just the same checklist applied to every site, written up in plain terms so you can judge it for yourself.

The seven areas we test

Every site we cover is assessed against the same areas, in the same order. That consistency is the whole point: it lets a score on one review sit fairly next to a score on another.

  1. Market coverage. We look at how deep the markets run on the sports people actually bet on — football, racing and the UK staples — rather than counting headline numbers. A thousand markets mean little if the ones you want are missing.
  2. Odds presentation. How prices are displayed, whether fractional and decimal are both available, and whether the coupon stays readable on a busy Saturday. We don't claim any site is uniformly best-priced — that varies market by market.
  3. Mobile usability. We test the apps and mobile site for the real job: placing a bet quickly, following in-play, finding cash out. Looks matter less than how it behaves when a price is moving.
  4. Bet builder & accumulators. Same-game builders, multiples and acca features, plus how clearly the related terms and any boosts are shown. We treat the small print as part of the offer.
  5. Payments & terms. The deposit and withdrawal methods supported, rough processing expectations, and — importantly — how transparently the rules are published rather than buried.
  6. Terms transparency. Whether key conditions on offers, withdrawals and verification are easy to find and read before you commit, not after.
  7. Safer gambling visibility. Deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion, and whether support is signposted where you'd actually look for it.

How the score comes together

We weigh those areas into a single editorial figure out of ten. It is a considered opinion, not a calculation you should treat as precise to the decimal. Two reviewers might land a tenth apart; what matters is that the same things were considered each time.

Scores vary naturally across the list because the sites genuinely differ. A racing specialist and a football-first newcomer are good at different things, and a single number can only ever be a starting point for your own look.

What our ratings do not claimThey are not official ratings, not endorsements from any regulator, and not a prediction of winnings, value, payouts or outcomes. Betting carries risk and you can lose your stake. Treat the score as a shortlist tool, then check the operator's site yourself.

Where commercial links fit

Some operator links are affiliate links that help fund the site. They do not affect the checklist, the score or the verdict. You can read the detail on our Affiliate Disclosure and Editorial Review Policy pages.
